Welcome
to Real County

0  Years

Welcome to Real County, the “Swiss Alps of Texas,” home to the Three Twisted Sisters and the beautiful Nueces and Frio Rivers headwaters. With its magnificent hills, deep canyons, and crystal clear water, Real County is one of the prettiest places in the State of Texas.

Motoring around the Three Sisters, hunting on exotic game ranches, hiking through the hills, fishing, participating in river activities such as tubing and kayaking, or enjoying fantastic birdwatching are just some of the many outdoor activities in Real County.

We invite you to come and share our paradise. Be safe and friendly in our garden of Eden.

Sheriff Nathan T. Johnson

Visit Real County
Welcome to REAL COUNTY, Texas. Real County was originally formed in 1913 and is located in the middle of the Texas Hill Country. We are known for our beautiful rivers, the Frio and Nueces. The County has two incorporated cities, Leakey (County seat) and Camp Wood. We are a tourist and hunting driven County. We are also fortunate to have numerous eating establishments, lodging, churches and service organizations that make us a better place to visit and play. If you're considering visiting, please do! You won't be disappointed.
Respectfully, Bella A. Rubio COUNTY JUDGE

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the hotel occupancy tax used for in Texas?

Funds from the state (six percent) hotel occupancy tax flow directly to the Texas Comptroller's office and are largely used for the general governmental operations of the State. A portion of the state hotel occupancy tax revenue also goes toward funding tourism promotion through Texas's ad campaign. Real County asseses an additional four percent to be used in promoting tourism to our county.
